About Our Founder – Dr. Mohammed A. Kabir

Dr. Mohammed A. Kabir, a distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, came to North America from England, where he had completed his residency. During his residency in 1960, he was placed in a setting where partial hospitalization was part of the treatment modality. He had additional exposure to this type of treatment while practicing in Vancouver, Canada.

Subsequently, he moved to the United States of America, where he entered into private practice in Psychiatry. He soon found that neither one on one therapy nor hospitalization provided comprehensive treatment to patients. He felt that the patient’s psycho-social environment at home and work, and their ability to cope with it, plays a significant role in the prolongation, exacerbation, and re-occurrence of the disease.

Therefore, a Partial Hospital program provides a patient with a living, learning situation, where they can learn behavioral health skills at the treatment facility and then apply these skills to their daily routine at home and work. Such issues and conditions may not be adequately addressed in a traditional treatment setting, such as a hospital.

In the late 1970s, Dr. Kabir proceeded to incorporate into his private practice, a mini-program using the Partial Hospital concept. Eventually, Centrec Care, Inc. (The Center for Treatment Rehabilitation, Education, and Counseling) was founded in 1986. That same year, Centrec Care Inc., received its JCAHO Accreditation and continues to maintain this recognition of superior quality.

Dr. M. A. Kabir’s extensive history of serving the public and continual evaluation of treatment outcome resulted in the creation of a highly successful and respected program titled “A Twelve-Step Journey to Wellness.”

The program is currently available for use by professionals such as Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Counselors, Therapists, and Educators.
